My Dragonflies

I almost never saw a dragonfly until about 10 years ago when I started seeing them ALL the time. They would often be in my back yard and linger around the deck by my patio door in addition to showing up by my car wherever it was parked at work or while shopping. The night I saw hundreds of them around the building where I was attending a meeting, I decided it was time to pay attention.

When we see things in our everyday life that differ from the norm, the creator/universe is trying to tell us to “take note” and pay attention. I firmly believe that there is something to learn from the uniqueness of everything. Just as no two people are the same, so is there difference in the rest of creation. Plants, animals, rocks, insects, etc. may be categorized for scientific purposes, but each variety is also distinctive and tells us something from its structure or its abilities. Did you know dragonflies are unique in their ability to move each wing independently which allows them to maneuver to an exact location?

I looked up the symbolism of the Dragonfly and was pleasantly surprised to learn it largely represents transformation. You see, I was going through a huge transformation at the time — preparing for a divorce and re-thinking who I was, what I wanted to do, and where I wanted to be.

Each of us also has something very unique and significant to contribute to the world around us.
