No! I Don’t “Got It”!

During my session yesterday with an energy healer (yes, I still work on myself), something came up that I want to share with you.

I used the phrase “I got it” a couple of times and later was talking about picking up the physical pains of my clients before a session (both in-person and remote/distance).  Lori, my practitioner, asked me if I use that phrase often.  I kind of do as covers a lot of different bases during conversations.

Lori suggested I find other words as we typically don’t want to “get” what other people have.  I’ll be honest, I hadn’t ever thought about it and I think about that kind of stuff a lot!

We don’t want to “get” their illness or frustration or struggle.  We don’t want to pick up their pains or problems.  We want them to know we understand and support them and there are likely much better, more meaningful words we could use … if we thought about it.

“I got it” or “I get it” are merely shorthand conversation within our culture today.  I’m not sure when it was first popularized, but maybe it’s time to put it aside so we stop telling our subconscious that it’s okay to align with what everyone else is doing, being, or getting.  We need to make conscious choices about what we get or bring or allow into our lives.

What words can you suggest to replace these catch phrases?  Please share and let’s get the ball rolling in a different direction.
