The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health

Health experts say sitting can be hazardous to our health. In fact, prolonged sitting has been linked into a number of diseases and health issues. However, perhaps what’s more concerning is what we do while sitting – mindlessly scroll and browse through our social media feeds. Indeed, social media has become an important and inescapable part of our everyday lives. Yet a growing number of studies are showing that heavy social media usage might be significantly affecting our brains more than we realize. How Social Media Can Drain Your Brain Social networking platforms have provided an indispensable benefit to connect people and have allowed us to share thoughts and conversations. …

    Is Stress Disturbing Your Sleep?

Sometimes our fast-paced, high-stress world sets the stage for sleep to be far less effective than we need it to be.  Our bodies and subconscious rely on getting a good night’s sleep much more than you may realize.  A great deal of rejuvenation takes place during those periods of deep sleep, and if we aren’t getting them, some of those repair processes are left undone. When our bodies are fully relaxed and in a deep state of sleep, our muscles are also relaxed and the blood passes through the circulatory system easier and becomes more fully oxygenated as it passes through the lungs (this removes carbon dioxide from the blood). …

Guided Meditation – Finding Peace in Chaos

In our fast-paced world, it is increasingly difficult to relax and de-stress. We pull up the internet and Google can return 22 million results in less than a second. This constant barrage of information, along with the hustle and bustle of our tech-driven era is enough to make anyone anxious. So how do you find calm amid the daily chaos?  Guided meditation is one of the ways I most often recommend to my clients.  All of my in-house Reiki sessions include guided meditation as part of the process and it has made a huge difference in helping people relax and come down out of fight/flight mode and be able to…

    Grief – Surviving the Holidays

Many struggle through the holidays carrying a burden of grief.  It may be grief caused by the death of a loved one, or it may be the loss of a way of life (divorce, break-up, job loss, career change), it could be the diagnosis of a terminal illness, or any life-altering event. There are 7 stages of grief and we need to work through each of them to move forward: shock and denial, pain and guilt, anger and bargaining, depression, the upward turn, reconstruction and working through, acceptance and hope. Grief is very personal.  Some people work through them faster than others and the order is not the same for…

    Angels at WalMart

While others seem to have negative experiences with people at WalMart, it seems to be where angels show up for me.  It happened again yesterday when I was out grabbing groceries. We’d been putting off a grocery run for about a week due to other activities but couldn’t delay it anymore.  I’d already stopped at Aldi and picked up most of the things but needed to pop in at the WalMart Neighborhood Market for a few fresh fruits and veggies that Aldi didn’t have.  I stay away from the big WalMart, but this little market is always pleasant and it’s on my way home from Aldi. As I finished picking…

    I Promise …

For many people, taking a vow or an oath sticks with them … even after it no longer serves its purpose.  This can be especially true when you have been married and are now divorced.  Several clients recently had “vows” come up to be cleared during sessions as they were creating imbalances due to limiting beliefs. I often work with women and these women had been married and divorced.  Yet the commitment they made during their wedding vows continued to impact them in a big way.  During traditional marriage vows, we promise to stay with the other person in sickness and health, rich or poor.  We additionally promise to love,…

How I Do Sessions by Phone & Video

I learned about remote sessions in my Reiki training (a LONG time ago), so they’ve been part of my work for more than 30 years.  Many of my local clients prefer remote sessions (email, phone, video) as it’s more convenient.   They don’t have to fight local traffic and they can be sitting with friends or even at the beach and still connect with me for a session.  They can even sit in their jammies in the comfort of their own home and sip their favorite beverage without worrying about driving home … yes, many of my clients chat with me over a glass of wine 😊 How to Schedule & Connect …

How I Do Sessions by Phone

I learned about remote sessions in my Reiki training (a LONG time ago), so they’ve been part of my work for more than 30 years.  When I started reading cards for other people in 2010, remote sessions just came naturally for me. Many of my local clients prefer remote sessions (email or phone) as it’s more convenient.   They don’t have to fight local traffic and they can be sitting with friends or even at the beach and still connect with me for a session.  They can even sit in their jammies in the comfort of their own home and sip their favorite beverage without worrying about driving home … yes,…

    In Need of Quiet Distraction

You know how every once in a while (or maybe more like all the time) you have song lyrics continually running through your head? No matter what you do, they just don’t seem to stop … even at night when you’re trying to sleep. Do you ever have troublesome thoughts that do the same thing? Me too! Last night and this morning I found myself in that boat. I knew it was time to let someone move on from being part of my life but just couldn’t seem to let go. I kept going back over why we needed to stay in touch and how I needed to be there…

    Relaxation Day

Busy-ness is the trend these days. People carry over-packed schedules like winning trophies. “I’m SO busy at work!” “How do you have time to do that? I’m too busy to read/watch TV/exercise/do anything fun.” “I can’t get monthly massages I have too much to DO!” Too much “busy” could be making you tired, sick, and probably cranky. When do you relax? RELAX. “Relaxation” is a word we hear often, but don’t know always know what it means.    re·lax  verb ri-ˈlaks 1: the state of being free from tension or anxiety. 2: a way to rest and enjoy yourself 3: recreation or rest, especially after a period of work. 4:…
